| DEFENSIVE END: Sean Scott (1984-1987) |
| In addition to sporting one of the most intimidating mustaches in the history of the football program, Scott played a mean defensive end for the Hoos. Scott made an immediate impact as a freshman in 1984, finishing with 55 tackles (5th on the team), 8 tackles for loss (T-3rd), a fumble recovery and a pass break-up. [1985] As a junior in 1986, Scott was selected as a team captain and led the team in tackles with 88. As a senior, Scott once again served as team captain and had his finest season, finishing with 8 sacks (tied for the 14th highest single season total in school history) and earning 1st Team All-ACC honors. | Defensive Tackle - Ron Mattes (1981-1984) |
| Mattes was an anchor on Virginia’s defensive line from 1981-1984. ---- As a junior, Mattes….. In addition, he earned Honorable Mention All-ACC honors. As a senior in 1984, Mates finished with 68 tackles (4th on the team), 13 tackles for loss (1st), 3 fumble recoveries (1st), and 9 sacks (tied for the 9th most in school history). He also earned 1st Team All-ACC honors and helped lead the Hoos to their first-ever bowl game victory. Mattes finished his career with 18 sacks, 10th on the all-time list and the most by a defensive tackle. |
| Defensive Tackle - Tom Kilgannon (198_-1984) |
| A three-time letter winner (1982-1984), Kilgannon teamed with Ron Mattes to form a dominant one-two punch on the interior of Virginia’s defensive line. As a senior, Kilgannon served as a team captain and finished with 46 tackles, 9 tackles for loss (2nd on the team), 8 sacks (2nd on the team) and 2 pass break-ups. Kilgannon finished his career with 15 sacks, the 12th most in school history. Captain |

| Outside Linebacker - Ray Savage DE??? (1986-1989) |
| Ray Savage earned Kodak All-America honors at defensive end/outside linebacker in 1989 as an indispensable member of one of the most successful teams in Cavalier football history. Led all year long by Savage's brilliant defensive play, the 1989 Cavaliers rolled up a school-record 10 victories, earned a share of Virginia's first-ever Atlantic Coast Conference championship and met Illinois on New Year's Day in the 1990 Florida Citrus Bowl. Known for his hard-hitting style of play and unparalleled intensity, Savage finished the 1989 season with 91 tackles, including 49 solo stops and one quarterback sack. He also caused a fumble and broke up seven passes. A four-year starter, Savage also starred on Virginia's 1987 All American Bowl Championship squad. He finished his outstanding career ranked fourth (now 12th) among UVa's all-time leading tacklers with 302 total stops. He was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the eighth round of the 1990 NFL draft. |

| Defensive End - Stuart Anderson (1978-1981) |
| Anderson’s career (1978-1981) was evenly split between the 1970s and 1980s. However, he was such a beast that his 1980 and 1981 seasons were good enough to earn him a spot on the All-Decade Team. As a junior in 1980, Anderson led the team in tackles (98) and was selected 1st Team All-ACC. Anderson was even more dominant as a senior, finishing with ___ tackles, 8 sacks, and 14 tackles for loss and earning 1st Team All-ACC honors for the second consecutive season. Anderson finished his career with 354 tackles (8th on Virginia’ s all-time list), 23 sacks (T-6th), 42 tackles for loss (6th) and 11 fumbles caused (1st). |
